• Question: Which is better for the environment, walking or cycling?

      Both are great but if I had to choose one, I’d say walking is slightly better cause it doesn’t require a bicycle to be built.

      Walking solely uses human power, so it is convenient and definitely good for the environment.
      Cycling would need, mining the metal for the parts, manufacture of the parts, building the cycle, transportation of the cycle to the shops. So it emits more carbon in general.

      However, it is a much faster mode of transport than walking.

      Cycling. But only because it uses less kinetic energy.

      As the guys said before, it’s a close one. Cycling is more mechanically efficient, so we use less energy to move ourselves around than walking and therefore breathe out less carbon dioxide and need less food. However, there is energy needed to make the materials for the bike. I’d choose the bike because it’s so much faster and if you have the bike for a long time I’d say it balances out for the environment.
