There is currently a run away effect happening, particularly to the glaciers on greenland. As they begin to melt, warm melt water passes through the glacier to the bottom of the ice sheet. This raises the temperature at the bottom of the ice sheet, causing additional melt. This also accelerates the speed of the glacier along its path to the sea, increasing instability and fracturing of the glacier.
