When i was 14 I started a “green club” in my residential society to ban plastic bags from our nearby shops. Since single use plastics are the most harmful thing for the environment (particularly because they are not disposed properly), and seeing this idea actually implemented, this is my favorite thing that I did for the environment.

I remember going back to my village in India and I saw an 80 year old woman who had planted about 2000-3000 trees in her lifetime to save the environment. That was a very good idea as she was passionate about doing her bit for the environment.

I ran a LED bulb swap in Dingle, giving out LEDs if you gave us your old incandescent bulbs. In total 200 bulbs were swapped, I estimated that this will have saved 14 tons of CO2 a year, so the same as taking 4 cars off the road.

And I’ll agree with Aruna, I think the best idea is to plant trees, one of the women I work with is converting her small farm to a forest and offering people to invest in it as a means of offsetting the CO2 they emit.
